The "big four" awards - Record of the Year, Song of the Year (a songwriting prize), Album of the Year and Best New Artist - now include 10 nominees apiece, up from eight slots in 2020 and only five in 2016. (NPR correspondent Anastasia Tsioulcas, one of the reporters for this story, is a former Grammy voter and judge.)Īdditionally, a host of well-known Black artists, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator have spoken out about concerns that Black performers are frequently overlooked in the most prominent award categories, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist. The group had come under heavy criticism for an insular, secretive process of specialist committees that pared down huge fields of potential nominees to a final, select few in most of the Grammys' dozens of categories. This year's roster is the first since the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards, made significant alterations to the nominations process. The leading nominee for this year is bandleader, pianist and composer Jon Batiste, who was nominated in 11 dizzyingly wide-flung categories, including Album of the Year (for his album We Are), Record of the Year (for the song "Freedom"), Best R&B Album (also for We Are), Best Jazz Instrumental Album (for his album of music from and inspired by the Disney/Pixar film Soul), Best American Roots Song ("Cry") and Best Contemporary Classical Composition, for his piece Movement 11'. Speaking of that, can a bad CRT hurt a tester? Was thinking if I could find someone to test the CRT for me it would be better than buying a tester for right now, given that this might be the only tv I work on for quite a while. This might be something it is better to buy locally. Not very much money for the tester, but a ton for shipping. I don't have the Hallicrafters radio I started this with done yet. Figure a few more days in the heat can't really do any more damage than has already been done. So it is under the front porch roof for now. Going to have to do some rearranging first for that. Everything is in the house except the cabinet. Didn't seem to weigh that much earlier today. I guess having the seller help made a difference, but it hurt when I got the cabinet out of the car (suv) by myself. Junked/given away more cars than I care to think about.

The seller says it was all working, according to the person he got it from. And since I live in the middle of a desert, I can't just leave stuff outside. I still have a bunch of car parts that I don't have a place for. But shiny is good.īad thing is now I have to make room inside the house for it. I'm not interested in making this showroom new. Figure that now is the time since it is all apart. My wife likes to do staining, so I will set her loose on this. Everything is there, what isn't attached is in baggies. I was going to toss the cabinet directly in the trash, but honestly it is in a lot better shape than the pictures show. I will get some decent pictures of everything once I can get it out of the back of my car.Īnd already my plans for it are changing. I was thinking I just want the electronics, and $25 is not a bad deal. Well, I am sure most here will think I am an idiot, but I bought it today. Unless other wise noted, I am only interested in the electronics, not what it looks like.

My main interest right now is the electronics side of things, not so much the looks. I'm just starting out in this hobby, so the radio at this price is interesting to me even without a cabinet. If there would even be any parts worth keeping besides the tubes. Honestly, if I didn't say it before, I am really only interested in the radio.
